My First Internship!

My First Internship!

In addition to conducting scientific research on marine organisms, I have always sought out other opportunities to engage with the field of marine biology. Fortunately, while browsing online, I stumbled upon a fascinating internship opportunity specifically designed for high school students. In truth, finding an internship for high schoolers—particularly in a specialized field like marine biology—required considerable time and research on my part. I was absolutely thrilled to be accepted into this internship, which focuses on underwater imaging analysis. Through this program, I gain access to image datasets from a marine research institute in Greece, working under the guidance of expert professionals. It is here that I can learn about the anatomy of various marine fish and other ocean-dwelling organisms.

Last week marked my first assignment: writing a research paper on RUV—Remote Underwater Video—an underwater imaging technique frequently employed by researchers to collect visual data for observing nearshore marine environments. This served as a foundational step, allowing me to familiarize myself with and gain an understanding of the specific methodology that will provide the essential data required for my internship. This technique encompasses three main branches: Baited Remote Underwater Video (BRUV), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and Drop Cameras. Furthermore, based on feedback from my supervisor, I will be expanding my research to explore the application of advanced technologies for observing and gathering data on biodiversity in nearshore marine zones.

I am now moving on to the next task for the upcoming week, and I am fully committed to completing this assignment to the best of my ability. I also look forward to receiving further feedback to help me continue improving in the future.
